About Me:
Every year they come. They come to Los Angeles and another song, another record - another band is born. And sometimes, throughout all the timely songs, dustbin records, and forgotten groups, comes a band that is neither defined by its roots nor confined by the goings-on of their peers. It is their time. And they are called Oh Crap! Ninjas.

Combining the radio-friendliness of Switchfoot, the soulfulness of The Fray, and the energy and drive of Foo Fighters, Oh Crap! Ninjas delivers a memorable mixture of progressive and alternative-flavored Pop Rock. Sometimes filled with bright textures, other times sparse and moody, the music of Oh Crap! Ninjas is always melodic and lyrically poignant.

Bishop (David Gielan), vocals and guitar, Oh Crap! Ninjas' principle songwriter and founder, paid his musical dues early, touring the U.S. with Garage Rock favorite Gizmo at the tender age of 14 and sharing bills with Indie Rock darlings Trans Am (Thrill Jockey) and Vertical Horizon (RCA). Gielan, equally skilled at singing, guitar, violin, piano, drums, and producing, furthered his playing and burgeoning songwriting at Berklee College of Music, whose attendees include Grammy-winning and multi-platinum artists Paula Cole and John Mayer. Bishop, who has gone on to develop a noteworthy solo career, which includes a nomination from the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2005 for "Male Singer/Songwriter of the Year", writes songs that seem to come from a dark place, yet are melodically-driven, a contrasting formula which makes Oh Crap! Ninjas' sound, all its own.

Oh Crap! Ninjas' sonic strength comes from the Bass playing and producing of Frogs (Ryan McCormack). Frogs, a Berklee College Of Music graduate, has made his livelihood from music, touring the states year-round with groups such as The Neon Calm, Lucy Lawless, and David Hasselhoff. Like his band mates, Drummer Dan Thompson has also made a life filled with rigorous touring, sharing bills with top acts, and grinding out hour upon hour of studio performances with such acts as Scott Weiland and Protein. Thompson's masterful locomotion and use of a commanding technical style allow a platform for Jesse Beckman (Lead Guitar) to shine. Each of these musicians are accomplished in their own right and have all recorded with some of the nation's top acts.

Oh Crap! Ninjas' (formerly known as Simple 6) sophomore effort, the aptly titled “Break These Chains”, is a full fledged DIY production. Producing the entire album themselves, Oh Crap! Ninjas stayed true to their musical vision in a resounding and formidable way leaving the listener anxious for more, staying out of the confines of industry standards, creating a sound that can stand against any of today’s top selling albums. After receiving a 2006 nomination from the Los Angeles Music Awards (“Rock Album of the Year”) for their debut album “In High Def”, “Break These Chains” continues the movement, creating substantial buzz in all mediums, including television, radio, and the web. Whether it be airplay of their breakout single, Time, on iTunes and college radio stations across the country, being interviewed and performing as a featured artist on the morning talk show Brunch (Q-Television), or the 15,000 hits a month on their website www.ohcrapninjas.com, Oh Crap! Ninjas is on their way to the top.

Reviewing a show at the Knitting Factory, MusicHighway.com's Amanda Turner Manning wrote, "I will be looking out for Oh Crap! Ninjas' next gig and future success. Picking up the electric guitar, and leading his band, Bishop performs like a true front-man should, capturing our attention with the depth of his vocal inflections and huge range, not to mention great looks!" Miguel Davis, of the Los Angeles based touring and promotions company The Circuits, said, "Oh Crap! Ninjas' music is well-composed and Bishop’s vocals are astonishing. If we offered record deals, Oh Crap! Ninjas would be the first to receive one. Oh Crap! Ninjas is definitely the new artist to look for in 2007."

Bishop - Vocals/Guitar

Jesse Beckman - Lead Guitar

Frogs - Bass/Beats

Dan Thompson - Drums(not on current recordings)

The Album

It's done.. it's finally done. Who thought it was even possible. The album is finished. It only took 10 months and countless hours in the studio. The best part about this is that I have not been this proud of a record in a really long time. It took everything out of me to get these tracks from conception to fruition and I think everyone is going to really love it as much as we do.
We settled finally on the 11 tracks in addition to some extra treats along the way. As far as when you guys get your… Continue

Diary Of A Band 10th April 07 - Frogs

So I now find myself in the final, final stages of the first official Oh Crap! Ninjas recordings. It has been a long time coming. As a band, you NEED at least some demos... ANYthing at all. Without that you can't really book gigs, can't shop the band around to record labels (indie or major), can't
look for management or endorsements, or even tell people about the band:

"Hey, I'm in this awesome band..."

"Really? Can I hear some music?"

"No, we're so awes

Diary Of A Band 1st May 07 - Jesse

Dear diary,

So I have been sitting here trying to think up some kind of jargen, or info to let all of you know what's been going on with the OCN... but, my mind is a blank. All I know is, things are moving along slowly but surely and I'm hoping
for an improvement on 'pace'. We'll see what will happen once we are done
recording the album. I will be handing it off to a good pal of mine, Terrence who
should be able to hand it off to Brad at KROQ to slide us into the Micro-Brew
shows

Oh Crap! Ninjas

Diary Of A Band 20th April 07 - Bishop

I'm back after a long night and a pretty righteous gig. It's about 3:30 AM and I can still hear all the bustling from the street below my Melrose apartment in Los Angeles. I love playing shows around LA for the mere fact that I get to come home to my own bed at the end of the night. Beats the hell out of a strange hotel room or a tiny bunk on a tour bus. My bed's not great but at least it's mine. Not to mention the fact that I haven't been sleeping all that much lately due to recording the new a… Continue
